[TIMELINE] Breaking free: Thru Caloocan City Covid Response Experience

It has been almost a year since the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was declared as a Public Health Emergency of international concern, and has ultimately changed every aspect of the world. As the virus continues to spread and mutate in some cases, it is the government’s responsibility to contain this public health concern to prevent further transmission, and to provide an effective measure that addresses the needs of people from different sectors.

On a related note, looking at a public health issue being solved by the local government of Caloocan City, virus cases are slowly decreasing. As of February 9, the City Health Department recorded 15,614 total cases, 488 are active cases, and 332 death cases.

In the face of present adversities, it has significantly impacted the socioeconomic condition of the local municipalities. Caloocan City is also affected by the national economic decay, creating a dreadful repercussion on jobs and livelihood of its residents, including the neoliberal structure of education.

At its core, the COVID-19 pandemic surge is not just a public health concern, so let’s take a detailed look on how the Caloocan City LGU handling the battle, and where are we so far.
