The students of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication from University of Caloocan City (UCC) Congress Campus and its alumni have once again brought pride to the University as they bagged national prestigious awards during the awarding of the 5th installment of the National Council for Children’s Television DokyuBata festival held yesterday, November 12, 2021. This year ‘s DokyuBata featured the theme, “Doon Po Sa Amin: Inspiring and Liberating Stories from Lockdown”.

Christian Feliciano, who just graduated last academic year 2020-2021 and a one-man producer for his documentary entry “Salamat Po, Guro”, have received Best Story, Best Poster, and Best Documentary for the Adult Division.

His documentary features the hardships faced by our beloved professors who experience technical difficulties in online teaching, and how their passion and heart for imparting knowledge bridge the generation gap to continue their professions despite the pandemic. He is a one-man team under Von Production which was named in memory of late professor Mr. Victor “Von” Alerta who was one of the subjects of the case study of his documentary.

Meanwhile, the Daloy Productions comprised of Sofia Millen Sacaguing, Jessa Barrameda, Joshua Ashley Cailao, and Jamaicah May Cruz are 4th-year Communication Majors who successfully brought two awards under the Young Adult Division. Best Poster and Best Direction are awarded to their entry, “Sa Ngalan ng Ama”. It is a documentary featuring a 55-year-old priest, who tries to adopt and be conformed to the digital world to continue his life mission and service to people despite the challenges brought by the pandemic and the present adversities.

Last October 2021, three documentray entries produced by Communication major students made it to the top 10 finalists, including the above-mentioned documentaries and the Tanaw Production’s “Binhi’t Bisig”. However, the latter fail to secure major and special awards during the awarding ceremony yesterday. But despite this, their previous documentary “Gasera” for DokyuBata 2020, that holds the title for Best Documentary and Best Story under the Young Adult Division, have received a prestigious Gawad Ramon “Bong” Osorio as one of the finalists.

You`ve again set the bar high as visual storytellers! Congratulations, Yusisistas!
